A Surprise Selfie

Claire was done with selfies, so I told her I was taking a picture of the lake, but she was on to my tricks.

Good Manners

Conversation we had the other night:

Claire: What’s for dinner?
Dad: Boogers.
Claire proceeds to (pretend to) pick her nose and eat it.
Me: CLAIRE. DON’T DO THAT. It’s RUDE…to eat before everyone else is ready! 😉

(We’re keepin’ it classy ‘round here.) 😀

Digging Rocks

Doing our best to create a “my parents made me dig rocks” childhood in this new generation. #uphillbothways #buildsmuscles #buildscharacter

Swoon-worthy Sunset

Last night’s sunset was just gorgeous!

Colorado Renaissance Festival 2017

One of our favorite places (and things to do, all wrapped into one!) is the Colorado Renaissance Festival! We weren’t able to go last year, but we’ve gone many years in the past. This year, we brought some friends who had never been before, and they had a great time, too!

I got a sassy new haircut! The feathers I have for my Renaissance Festival hat were too big for the hat I wanted to wear (#FirstWorldProblems #RenFestProblems), so Claire wove some of my scarves together and made me a new band! I love it!

We’ve been collecting pieces over the years to add to our costumes! The Jingle Skirts are still a MUST!

Claire is smitten with her new Elf Ear Jewelry. (I snapped this pic while we were watching the Joust!)

This is 2011 Claire and 2017 Claire next to the big knight. Wow!

DAM Fun in Denver

Don’t clutch your pearls. I didn’t spell it wrong. It stands for the Denver Art Museum. 😉

An out-of-state friend was in town, so we met her at the Denver Art Museum for the day! We explored inside and out. It was great to catch up!

Almost Sunset

The colors tonight were AMAZING on our walk around the lake after dinner! Pre-sunset. No filter. The blues, the greens, the mountains. *swoon*

Fireworks at the Lake

Just after sunset. Just before the show(s).

For the last few years, we’ve walked to the lake & watched fireworks erupt all around us, from the professional and non-professional shows. It’s magical & we don’t have to deal with crowds & parking. Last night we did the same, and the shows were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. …and absolutely amazingly illegal.

Are fireworks illegal in Colorado? I think the official answer is yes, but the real answer is no. (In fact, you can set them off in the park right by the police station. All night. Yes, really!)

I didn’t try to take lots of pictures of the fireworks, because I’d rather be in the moment (i.e. enjoy them…and be ready to run). This one turned out well, though!

We opted to embrace it. We took it all in, and we were astounded by the beauty all around us.

Last night was one of the best shows we’ve been to, quite honestly. After we walked home, we marveled at the nonstop explosions around us, talked about how we’re lucky we (and our critter) can sleep through things like that (the loud attic fan drowns out most sounds), and then we ran our sprinklers for most of the night, just in case.

No Smurfs Were Harmed in the Process…

Claire and I decided to do something new today. We had our own little spa day at home and played with a new (to us) mask! (We decided the lady in the picture in the instructions had a professional apply her mask. Hers wasn’t nearly as goopy! …but ours worked perfectly anyway!)

“Ican’tmovemyface.”

“Ican’tmovemyfaceeither.”

😀

So much fun!

Cholla!

In happier news, our Cholla cactus is blooming! I long for this time, every year, and every year I’m just smitten.
