Spring Shadow Portrait 2008

Claire and I went exploring in the yard yesterday while Daddy worked on a project. In our adventures, we found many of the flowers have started to bloom!

When we ventured onto the rocks on the west side of the house, imagine my surprise in finding the sun at just the right angle to include these awesome spring colors in a shadow portrait!

I ran back into the house, grabbed the camera and made Daddy take a break from his project. He joined us in the sun, and we were able to create our Spring Shadow Portrait 2008 to be used for the blog header.

You can click on each photo to enlarge.

Spring Shadow Portrait

In order, you’ll see the shadows of Claire (with Puppy), Momma and Daddy, captured with the Grape Hyacinth and Holly.

Grape Hyacinth

This mixture of blue and purple is one of my all-time favorites.

Holly

I love the bright yellow!

Creating shadow portraits is an on-going theme here at The Casual Perfectionist. I’ve tried to represent the different seasons with various scenes. (Well, my impatience with the recent snow-storms did throw an exception into the mix…and those tulips are almost ready to bloom!) You can read about the other shadow portraits I’ve used as headers by checking out this category.

Enjoy!

Winter Portrait

As you can see, I’ve changed the header on the blog again! It snowed this weekend, and the weather was just perfect to go out into the backyard and take some snow shadow portraits!

Snow Shadow Portrait

I love this picture! As always, you can click on the above photo a couple times to see it in more detail. (Feel free to check out the Custom Image Header category to see the other shadow portraits we’ve done…)

I’m the kind of person who loves the changing of the seasons. Yes, I’ll complain about the blazing heat of summer or the bitter cold of winter, but I love the differences each season brings.

For this portrait, we are standing in Momma, Claire and Daddy order. You can see the skeleton of one of the apple trees, with a few vibrant red apples clinging on to the branch, refusing to admit that winter is here. You can see the green boughs of the junipers peeking out from under a blanket of fresh snow.

Change is in the air, and I can’t wait to see what this winter brings!

Autumn Portrait

I’ve changed the header on the blog to coincide with the changing of the seasons. I’m a sucker for playing in the leaves in the backyard, and we love taking shadow portraits. This one, in particular, was a lot of fun. This is, of course, one of about 237 we took. ;) For pictures, and in general, I always hold Claire between us, in my left arm. This time, she kept trying to lean back on Daddy’s shoulder, which is great for regular pictures, but makes an oddly shaped Daddy and Claire blob on a shadow portrait.

As soon as I switched her to my other arm, this picture emerged, and we were amazed at how much it looks like all of us! All of our mannerisms and personalities are captured in this particular shadow portrait. Daddy is concentrating on taking the picture; I have my head cocked to one side, and you can see Claire’s profile as she’s looking at Puppy. I love it!

Shadow Portrait in the leaves

So, when the snow flies, we’ll try our hand at some snow shadow portraits. In the meantime, enjoy this autumn portrait!

Change is in the air

Well, I’ve been working on a site redesign for a while. My hubby graciously set up a testing site for me, and I’ve been poking around and playing around with different themes. I think I’ve settled on one, and we’ll try it out for a while!

Please be patient while I work out any bugs!

Shadow Portrait in the sand

The current header (seen above) is a dual-self-portrait taken by my husband while we were exploring The Great Sand Dunes National Park a few years ago. You can’t tell from the picture, but Fall was just around the corner, and we were at the top of one of the dunes. We’ve taken self-portraits like these in many locations and will continue to do so. Don’t be surprised if you see more like this in the future!
